ABSTRACT:
There are two competing approaches to how to deal with Mainland China. The ruling KMT favors engaging China, while the opposition DPP countering China. Taiwan is scheduled to have a presidential election in January 2016.Current polls show that the DPP candidate Tsai Ying-wen is leading in a big way. Given the change of KMT candidate to Eric Chu and upcoming Ma-Xi summit in Singapore this month, the presidential election seems to be more unpredictable.
BIO:
Liou To-hai (劉德海), Ph.D.(University of Arizona), is Professor and Chair, Department of Diplomacy and Directors of the Center for WTO Studies and Center for Australian Studies in College of International Affairs, National Chengchi University, Taiwan as well as President, the Chinese Association for Korean Studies.
He is the author of South Korea's Foreign Relations Since the mid 1980s (1997), and co-author of International Politics(1996) and Introduction to Korean Studies (2001). He is also editor of Taiwanese Journal of WTO Studies, Taiwanese Journal of Australian Studies and the Journal of International Relations. He has contributed many articles to academic journals such as the Journal of East Asian Affairs, Foreign Trade Review, the Icfai University Journal of International Relations and so on. His research interests focus on WTO, FTA, international relations of Asia, Asian economic integration, comparative foreign policies, foreign policies of two Koreas, Japan and Australia and India.
